DGN was first mentioned in 1999 by six men sitting together. Amongst there agreement was that A colossus at the Time Mathias Obahiagbon  be Founding President of The Guild.

The Current Leadership

In February 2016 elections were held again and Mr. Fred Amata emerged as the new President of the DGN. His first mandate was to unite the Guild after a hard-fought campaign process under the tag #dgnthefuture. He very quickly began to hash out that future of the DGN as an inclusive, directional and world class body poised to restore and refocus professionalism and investment in the ‘Nollywood’ Nigeria film industry. His 2-year tenure began on the 8th of April, 2016. Mr. Amata serves on this board with a 9-person committee.

In April of 2018, The Enterprising and Visionary Leadership of Fred Amata, convinced the OGUN STATE Governor Ibikunle Amoson to Host DGN to the  DGN-OGUN Nollywood Fiesta, 3 days of symposiums lectures, induction of new members and an Annaul General  Meeting. Elections took place at the General Meeting and Fred Amata was unanimously returned unopposed. . His 2-year tenure began on the 8th of April, 2018. Mr. Amata serves on this board with a 9-person committee. The new EXCO is made up of an 8man committee
